Lao Prime Minister Mr. Bouasone Bouphavanh recieved hon. PhD of Tech Mgt.

PM receives honorary doctorate from Thai university

Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University in Bangkok , Thailand , yesterday awarded an honorary Doctor of Philosophy degree in technology management to the Prime Minister of Laos, Mr Bouasone Bouphavanh.

Yes, Mr. Bouasone Bouphavanh has great interest in ICT and in the technology in general. He does encourage everyone to use ICT and he has promoted the use of ICT in both government and private sectors to improving the services.

First Lao mobile lauched


















Dear all,

Last week was the week of the first Lao mobile company namely Suntec Lao which launched their marketing campaign and its grand opening of their Viengjanh company office. On Friday, myself and the ministry of Telcom has a workshop, the evening was the grand opening ceremony at the Lao Plaza, and the Sunday was of the free convert which Indee Records and the team organized. The Friday event was very unique, there were special guests namely Thai and Chinese ambassadors and the deputy minsitry Mr. Singthong of Telcom attended the grand opening. The event followed by extravaganza of food and concert featured Lao popular band the Princess. It was a bang.

IBM JOINS OPENOFFICE.ORG COMMUNITY

Good news!!!

Louis Suarez-Potts, OpenOffice.org Community Manager, has just sent out the press release. My former employer, the big blue- IBM, announced that it joining the OOo community to collaborate on the development of OpenOffice.org software. IBM will be making initial code contributions that it has been developing as part of its Lotus Notes product, including accessibility enhancements, and will be making ongoing contributions to the feature richness and code quality of OpenOffice.org. Besides working with thecommunity on the free productivity suite's software, IBM will also leverage OpenOffice.org technology in its products."

This is very interesting news since many of the IBM products such as IBM Lotus Notes and Domino are well-known for its rich in features and robust technology.

One million French computers running FOSS and other news

The French has committed itself to fully utilize the benefit of Open Source.

The French government wants open source providers to resupply state computers.

The French government in a cost-cutting move is trying to trim down IT spending budget and giving alternate software providers a chance. The French Civil Services minister was reported as saying that he wants to use open source to resupply part of the 1 million state computers.

New Lao keyboard map/layout

The national Lao UNIOCDE font is now based on this keyboard layout. It is encouraged the vendors and keyboard stickers to be made according to this new minor design.

Government Approved of National Standard Lao Phetsarath font

Here is signed document by the prime minister office.
The font is it now an office national standard.
